China's Fan Zhanle holds a world record and returns to the 47-initial record after 3 years.
Hwang Seon-woo (21, photo) became the first Korean athlete to rank in the top five in the men's 100m freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships.
Sunwoo Hwang ranked 5th with a time of 47.93 seconds in the men's 100m freestyle final at the 2024 World Championships held in Doha, Qatar on the 16th. Hwang Seon-woo recorded the same record in the semi-finals the previous day and received a ticket to the finals in third place. Hwang Sun-woo was the first Korean athlete to reach the finals in the men's 100m freestyle world championships.
This is the first time that Hwang Sun-woo has recorded a time of 47 seconds in the 100m freestyle since the finals of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics (47.82 seconds). At the Tokyo Olympics, he set an Asian record at the time (47.56 seconds) in the semifinals.
However, at the World Championships, he failed to advance to the finals of the eight-person competition, finishing only at 48.08 seconds at both the 2022 Budapest competition (11th place) and last year's Fukuoka competition (9th place).
The win on this day went to Fan Zhanle (20, China, 47.53 seconds). This is the first time that Fan Zhanle, who holds the men's 100m freestyle world record (46.80 seconds), has won a gold medal in an individual event at the World Championships. 섯다
